FAQ - PRESBYOPIA
PRESBYOPIA
SYMPTOMS
-
Blurry close vision that starts after age 40
-
Difficulty adjusting focus when switching from near to distance vision
-
Eye fatigue along with headaches when doing close work
CAUSES
As we age, the lenses in the eyes become less elastic and lose their ability to flatten and thicken. This decreased elasticity affects how the eyes focus when changing from near to distance vision. While presbyopia may seem to occur suddenly, it actually takes several years for an individual to be aware that seeing close up has become more difficult. Presbyopia usually becomes noticeable in the early to mid-forties.
DIAGNOSIS
Glory Seoul Eye Clinic in Seoul can perform a comprehensive examination for presbyopia to determine elasticity, ability to focus, eye coordination and muscle control.
TREATMENT
While mild cases of presbyopia can be treated with over-the-counter eye glasses, prescription glasses and contact lenses are used for more severe conditions or when nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism is also present. Additionally, there are surgical procedures that can reduce or eliminate the effects of presbyopia.
Studies have shown that refractive surgery may help some people with presbyopia lessen their dependence on corrective lenses. Glory Seoul Eye Clinic can create an effective treatment plan based on your specific presbyopic condition.
